484-Swedish Broad Axe 1700
The Gränsfors Broad Axes model 1700 and model 1800 have a thicker edge than the 1900 and are always ground on both sides. With the 1700 and 1800 models the handle is always attached straight in relation to the blade. The thick cutting edge and wide bevel face enable the head and handle of the axe to stand away from the material you are working on. The hand holding the handle will therefore automatically be at a safe distance from the workpiece, which is why the 1700 and 1800 models are not available with angled handles. The big different between the 1800 and the 1700 is that the axe head on the 1700 has a steel collar for old-style handle attachment and as protection for the handle. The 1800 has a more recent type of eye so that the handle attaches in the more usual way. The Model 1700, distinguished by its unique integral forged iron handle sheath, has a 7½’’ cutting edge and a 20″ hickory handle. Comes with a full grain leather sheath (cover) and a copy of The Axe Book. Weight: 3.75 lbs.
